This is me

My name is Cláudia Barradas. I was born in Mozambique and came to Portugal while I was still a child.

It was with my mother that I learned to paint. Witnessing the joy she felt when she painted encouraged and inspired me to love the process of painting, artistic expression, and the freedom that each creation gave me.

When I paint, I connect with my soul, with my truth, and also with my deepest fears and shadows, bringing them into the light through the emotions I feel while I am creating.

I graduated in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2001, and throughout my journey I have always balanced art and creation with my life as a therapist. Being present with others in their most fragile and vulnerable moments made me a more humble person. It led me into a deep inner dive into my own pain, opened my heart, and as a result, my artistic expression changed.

I am married to Diogo, the love of my life, and I have two beautiful daughters. My family is my greatest inspiration and my refuge—my home. It is where I feel happiest and most fulfilled. Painting my daughters is my way of honoring them and eternalizing my love for them.

Art takes us into deep layers within ourselves and elevates us to places that are asleep, waiting to be seen.

Art is a form of healing and alchemy

I like painting with different materials and on different surfaces. Whether it’s walls, canvases, paper, clothing, or digital, every place is a good place to express my creativity.

With watercolors, acrylics, oils, pencils, or pens, I love experimenting with materials, and it’s difficult for me to choose a favorite—although watercolors are probably the ones that give me the most freedom to create.

I don’t like being tied to just one technique, and sometimes that can be quite challenging, but I think it has to do with my creative nature, my stubbornness, and my Gemini sun with a Gemini rising. A lot of air around here!
